Intersection
In “Intersection,” I explore the visual tension between humans and their surroundings. Portraying the notion that collectively, we have inadvertently removed ourselves from nature. To communicate this tension, I photographed scenes of people ordinarily existing as they would in the everyday domestic environment so many of us are accustomed to, but with complete and utter oblivion to their surroundings. The state of unawareness emphasizes the ignorance we have towards our separation from the natural world, contrasting monotonous everyday life with the wild outdoors: A symbol of the visual contradiction between human civilization and nature. I raise questions about the relationship between these two seemingly disparate realms, prompting us to contemplate the intersection of the “man-made” and the natural world.
